Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The text is recognised entirely in your browser, on your own device — your image never leaves your computer or phone. The one exception is a one-time download of the recognition engine itself (not your image): the first time you use the tool your browser fetches a small OCR engine and the language data from a content-delivery network, then caches them. Because of that one fetch the tool isn’t fully offline, but your actual image is always processed locally.

Why is the first run slower?

The first time you extract text, the OCR engine and the language you picked are downloaded once and cached. After that, recognition starts straight away. Recognition itself runs on your device’s processor, so large or detailed images take a little longer — there’s a live progress bar so you always know what’s happening.

Which languages can it read?

A range of common languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese and Korean. Pick the language that matches your image before you upload — choosing the right one noticeably improves accuracy.

What kind of images does it read best?

Clear, printed, straight-on text reads most accurately — documents, screenshots, book pages and clean scans. It’s much weaker on text at an angle or very small, text over busy photo backgrounds, stylised logos, barcodes or QR codes, and handwriting (which isn’t reliably recognised). For the best result, use a clear, straight-on image with the text as large and in focus as possible. We also lightly clean up each image (grayscale and contrast, and a gentle upscale of very small ones) before reading to squeeze out a bit more accuracy.

How accurate is it, and can I fix mistakes?

Accuracy depends on the image: clear, high-contrast, upright text (a screenshot or a sharp scan) reads very well; blurry photos, unusual fonts or skewed text are harder. We show a confidence figure, and the result is fully editable — just correct anything before you copy it or download the .txt.
