Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Your image is processed entirely on your device and never uploaded — the cutout is created in your browser, so your photo never leaves your computer or phone. The one exception is a one-time model download (see below), which fetches the AI model itself, not your image.

Why does the first time take a moment to load?

The first time you remove a background, your browser makes a one-time ~16 MB download: a compact ~4.5 MB AI model (served from this site) plus the ~12 MB engine that runs it (from a content-delivery network). After that both are cached, so every later cutout starts straight away with no download. Because the engine is fetched once from a CDN, the tool isn’t fully offline — but your actual image is always processed locally on your device and never sent anywhere.

What do I get back, and does it keep transparency?

A PNG with a fully transparent background, so you can drop the subject onto any colour, photo or design. We show the result on a checkerboard so the transparency is visible, with a Before/After toggle to compare, then you download the PNG.

Which images work best?

Accepted Answer

JPG, PNG and WebP are supported. A clear subject — a person, product or animal — against a reasonably distinct background gives the cleanest cutout. Very large images still work; they may just take a little longer since everything runs on your own device.

Is it really free, with no sign-up or watermark?

Accepted Answer

Yes — completely free, no account, no watermark, and no limit on how many images you process. Many background removers push you to a paid API; here the free in-browser path is the whole tool.
